⚠️WARNING: this post is a bit bossy and a smidge sassy, but all with love;
Listen up, because I’m only going to say this once, and I’m saying it because I actually care about you: you are not a superhero, well, I mean…you kinda are. But that’s besides the point.
I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with putting your loved one first. Honestly, I think its beautiful. But let’s get real for a second. You are currently running on fumes, and eventually, the engine is going to just crap out.
When you skip that doctor’s appointment, ignore that persistent ache in your back, or convince yourself that you “don’t have time” for a shower, you aren’t being a hero. You’re just being reckless with the only body God gave ya.
You can’t pour from an empty cup honey. It’s physically impossible. If you crash, who’s going to take care of the people you’re exhausting every last drop of your energy to look after?
So, here is your new set of rules:
* If you have a doctor’s appointment, YOU ARE GOING. Period. No excuses. And BE HONEST with your provider.
* If your brain feels like it’s going to explode, you are calling a therapist or even if its just your bestie, TALK TO SOMEONE. Good mental health is not a “nice-to-have,” it’s a requirement. A requirement to providing your loved ones with the highest standard of care.
* If you need ten minutes to just sit in silence and drink a cup of lukewarm coffee and read two pages of a book, YOU TAKE IT. The world will not stop spinning if you take a breath.
* If you need to brush your hair or put on actual clothes, do it. Small acts of self-care are still acts of care.
Stop acting like your health is an optional luxury. It is a non-negotiable necessity. I’m not asking you to be selfish; I’m asking you to be smart. You’re doing a beautiful thing for your loved one, but don’t you dare forget about and neglect yourself. So, please…TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, if you don’t, burning out is inevitable. Thank you!
